Lachlan Hinwood (b. 1995 Altona, Manitoba, Canada) is a painter and educator who lives and works in Iowa City, IA. He received a B.A. in Geography and Studio Art from Macalester College and an M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the University of Iowa. Hinwood’s intimately sized paintings meditate on quietness, color, and a transcendental relationship to the landscape. Place is a central theme in Hinwood’s practice, and his paintings often begin from observational sketches made during walks through the woods and from his studio window.
